Escape your Chair Challenge

Raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation with the 21st Business Post National Health Summit and be in with a chance to win an Ireland’s Blue Book voucher!

A core theme of the 21st Business Post National Health Summit is ‘Preventative Healthcare’.

A recent survey by the Irish Heart Foundation revealed that more than half of people working from home in Ireland are sitting for an average of two hours and 40 minutes longer per day.

It is recommended that we get 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity at least five days a week. However, this does not counteract the damage caused to our health by otherwise sitting for long periods of time.

Every hour someone in Ireland suffers from a stroke. Every day, hundreds of Irish people are diagnosed with heart disease. The lives of these people are often cut tragically short. Many are left disabled. Almost 9,000 people die each year, making heart disease and stroke one of the nation’s biggest killers.

The 21st Business Post National Health Summit is pleased to announce the  Escape your Chair’  challenge, which will raise awareness and much needed funds for the Irish Heart Foundation   

For two weeks, commencing on Wednesday 23rd January, speakers, sponsors, delegates and indeed the wider public are invited to join in and perform their Escape your Chair exercises every working day to raise funds to help save lives from heart disease and stroke. 

For these two weeks in the run up to the Health Summit, participants will escape their chair with our easy exercises that are designed to help you move more. Participants are asked to log their minutes daily, post at least 1 weekly video or pic onto social med

These are the 6 simple and effective exercises we are asking participants to perform daily.

Dublin All-Star, Niall Scully, takes us through some of the simple exercises you can do each day to escape your chair for The Irish Health Foundation. 

You can of course add more exercises to your program. In advance of and during this challenge, we will send participants important information on physical activity, as well as an Irish Heart Foundation Snood.  Calculate your sitting time with the sitting time calculator and look up our information and advice on building movement into your day.
