Prof. Donal Brennan

Donal is a Clinician Scientist who graduated from the UCD School of Medicine in 2003 and was awarded a PhD in Cancer Biology from UCD in 2008. His research interests include ovarian cancer immunology, obesity-related carcinogenesis, and the development of evidence-based survivorship services for women living with and beyond cancer. He has played a central role in the development of multiple patient advocacy groups and strongly believes that patients should be actively involved at all stages of research and service development. Donal has received several national and international research awards, including being named the inaugural European Young Researcher of the Year in 2010. He is a Principal Investigator in Systems Biology Ireland and leads multiple national and international clinical and translational research programmes. He is co-lead of Precision Oncology Ireland-2. In 2023, he was appointed National Clinical Lead for Cancer Research in Ireland at the National Cancer Control Programme and served as Chair of the National Clinical Trials Oversight Group.
