Grainne was appointed to her position as CEO in October 2025. She previously served as Professor of Neurology and Director of the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial disease* Research at Newcastle University, and as a Consultant Neurologist Royal Victoria Infirmary (Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals). A clinician-scientist and health leader, she has a strong record of cross-sector collaboration and patient-centred innovation. She completed her professional training in Ireland.
